    Hafnium is a shiny silver gray transition metal. Its atomic number is 72 and atomic weight is 178.49. Hafnium does not react with dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid and strong base solution, but it is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia. Hafnium foil is a high purity hafnium metal foil made by special mechanical pressing.  It can be used as control rod and protection device of atomic reactor.
    Hafnium foil can be rolled and produced by ingot hot rolling and multi roll casting. Including:

    Ingot Hot Rolling Method

    First, the melt is cast into a flat ingot, and then subjected to processes such as homogenization, hot rolling, cold rolling, and intermediate annealing. After that, the plate with a thickness of about 0.4~1.0 mm is continuously cold rolled as a foil blank (melting casting → hot rolling → cold rolling → foil rolling).
    In the ingot hot rolling method, the hot rolled billet is first milled to remove defects such as oxide layers and impurities from the ingot surface, and then homogenized to make the microstructure of the ingot more uniform. Subsequently, multiple processes such as hot rolling, cold rolling, and intermediate annealing are performed.

    Multi Roll Casting Method

    Compared to the ingot hot rolling method, the process flow of the casting rolling method is relatively simple, and it does not require complicated process steps such as melting the ingot, milling, homogenization, and hot rolling. Instead, the melt is directly poured into two rotating casting rollers (crystallizers), and the solidification and hot rolling processes are completed simultaneously in the casting rolling zone within 2 to 3 seconds, obtaining a plate with a thickness of 4 to 7 mm. After a series of cold rolling and intermediate annealing processes, the cast rolled plate is finally rolled into a 0.3~0.7mm thick plate as a blank.
