Boron carbide, also known as black diamond, is an inorganic substance, with the chemical formula of B4C, usually a gray black powder. It is one of the three hardest materials known (second only to diamond and cubic boron nitride).
Boron carbide powder is a kind of carbide ceramic powder with gray black appearance. It has strong chemical resistance, is not corroded by hot hydrogen fluoride and nitric acid, is soluble in molten alkali, and is insoluble in water and acid.
According to different particle sizes, boron carbide powder can be divided into coarse boron carbide powder, medium boron carbide powder, fine boron carbide powder, extremely fine boron carbide powder, ultra-fine boron carbide powder and boron carbide nanopowder.
Boron Carbide Powder Application
Boron carbide powder has the characteristics of low density, high strength, high temperature stability and good chemical stability. It does not react with acid and alkali solutions. It has high chemical degree, neutron absorption, wear resistance and semiconductor conductivity. It can be applied to the following occasions and fields:
1. As an absorber of neutrons in nuclear power plants;
2. For grinding, grinding, drilling and polishing of hard materials such as cemented carbide and gemstone;
3. For sintered boron carbide bulletproof ceramic armor;
4. It is used to make control rods, regulating rods, accident rods, safety rods, shielding rods of nuclear reactors, boron carbide tiles, plates or neutron absorbers for radiation protection, or to mix with cement to make shielding layers of nuclear reactors.
