    Hafnium silicide powder, also called hafnium disilicide powder, is a kind of silicide ceramic powder with gray appearance. The chemical formula is HfSi2. Hafnium disilicide is a kind of transition metal silicide, which is a kind of refractory intermetallic compound. Because of its unique physical and chemical properties, it is used in the fields of cermets, high-temperature oxidation resistant coatings, high-temperature structural materials, aerospace and other fields.

    According to different shapes, hafnium silicide powder can be divided into spherical hafnium silicide powder and irregular hafnium silicide powder. According to different particle sizes, hafnium silicide powder can be divided into coarse hafnium silicide powder, fine hafnium silicide powder, extremely fine hafnium silicide powder, ultra-fine hafnium silicide powder and hafnium silicide nanopowder.

    Hafnium Silicide Powder Application

    Hafnium silicide powder can be used in different occasions and fields according to its shape and particle size. The details are as follows:
    1. It is used in metal ceramics, high-temperature oxidation resistant coatings, high-temperature structural materials, aerospace and other fields.
    2. Hafnium silicide ceramic matrix composite (C/C, C ceramic) is a new type of thermal structure/function integration material with the performance advantages of metal materials, ceramic materials and carbon materials. It has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, low density, high specific strength, high specific modulus, oxidation resistance, ablation resistance, insensitive to cracks, and no catastrophic damage. It is widely used in machinery, aerospace, nuclear, energy and other fields.
    3. As thermal structural materials, C/C composites can be used for structural components of gas turbine engines, nose cone caps of space shuttles, leading edges of wings, etc. Most of these components work under high temperature and oxidation environment. However, C/C composites are easy to be oxidized and can not normally serve in the oxidation atmosphere higher than 400 ℃. This requires appropriate oxidation protection for C/C composites. In situ synthesis of refractory metal carbides (HfC, HfC, TaC) in C/SiC composites can significantly improve their ablation resistance. The main mechanisms can be summarized as inhibition of oxidation, enhancement of matrix erosion resistance and remedying the defects after ablation. Hafnium silicide can be used as the Hf source for in-situ synthesis of HfC.
