    Titanium diboride powder is a gray or gray black powder with hexagonal crystal structure. The chemical formula is TiB2. The melting point is 2980 ℃, which has high hardness. Titanium diboride is the most stable compound of boron and titanium. It has a C32 type structure and is bound in the form of its valence bond. It belongs to a quasi metal compound of hexagonal crystal system. The structural parameters of the complete crystal are: a is 0.3028 nm, C is 0.3228 nm. In the crystal structure, the boron atomic plane and the titanium atomic plane alternately appear to form a two-dimensional network structure, in which B and the other three B are covalently bonded, and the extra one electron forms a large π bond. This layered structure of boron atoms similar to graphite and the outer electrons of Ti determine that TiB2 has good conductivity and metallic luster, while the Ti-B bond between the boron atomic plane and the titanium atomic plane determines the high hardness and brittleness of this material.

    The oxidation resistance temperature of titanium diboride in air can reach 1000 ℃, and it is stable in HCl and HF acid. Titanium diboride powder is mainly used to prepare composite ceramic products. Because it can resist the corrosion of molten metal, it can be used in the manufacture of molten metal crucible and electrolytic cell electrode.

    Titanium Diboride Powder Application

    Titanium diboride powder with different particle size and purity can be used in different occasions and fields. The details are as follows:
    1. Used as conductive ceramic material. Titanium diboride powder is one of the main raw materials for vacuum coating conductive evaporation boat.
    2. Used for making ceramic cutting tools and moulds. It can be used to manufacture finishing tools, wire drawing dies, extrusion dies, sandblasting nozzles, sealing elements, etc.
    3. Used as composite ceramic materials. Titanium diboride powder can be used as an important component of multi-component composite materials to form composite materials with TiC, TiN, SiC and other materials to make various high-temperature resistant components and functional components, such as high-temperature crucibles, engine components, etc. It is one of the best materials for making armor protective materials.
    4. Used as cathode coating material for aluminum reduction cell. Because of the good wettability between TiB2 and molten aluminum, using TiB2 as the cathode coating material of aluminum reduction cell can reduce the power consumption of aluminum reduction cell and prolong the cell life.
    5. Used to make PTC heating ceramic materials and flexible PTC materials.
