Lanthanum is a silver white rare earth metal. The chemical symbol is La, the atomic number is 57, and the atomic weight is 138.9055. The density is 6.174g/cm3. The melting point is 920 ℃. The boiling point is 3464 ℃. The chemical property of lanthanum is very active. It will lose its metallic luster and form a blue oxide film when exposed to air, but it can not protect the metal, and then further oxidizes to form white oxide powder.
