Samarium is a silver white metal with medium hardness. The chemical symbol is SM and the atomic number is 62. The melting point is 1345 K(1072 °C).The boiling point is 2064 K (1791 °C). Samarium is slightly toxic. Samarium is quite stable in dry air, and oxide film is formed on the surface of Samarium in humid air. Samarium is soluble in acid but insoluble in water.
