Tungsten crucible refers to a type of tungsten crucible made from high-purity tungsten raw materials, mainly used for melting precious metals. According to different production processes, tungsten crucibles can be divided into sintered tungsten crucibles, stamped tungsten crucibles, spinning tungsten crucibles, machined tungsten crucibles, and welded tungsten crucibles. Among them:
Sintered Tungsten Crucible
The sintered tungsten crucible is produced using the isostatic pressing sintering method. The isostatic pressing sintering method mainly includes processes such as high purity tungsten powder isostatic pressing, high-temperature sintering, turning, and finished product inspection.
Advantages:Sintered crucibles have high density, high purity, long service life, and convenient use.
Disadvantages:Improper configuration of powder ingredients, pressing pressure, size of the bottom corner of the mold core, and sintering temperature rise and fall speed can easily lead to cracks.
Stamped Tungsten Crucible
The preparation process of stamped tungsten crucibles is mainly completed through three steps: punching, bending, and drawing. Blanking is a general term for separation processes such as cutting, blanking, punching, punching, grooving, sectioning, chiseling, edge cutting, tongue cutting, cutting, and trimming. Bending is a stamping process that utilizes pressure to cause plastic deformation of a material, resulting in it being bent into a shape with a certain curvature and angle. Deep drawing is a stamping process that converts straight raw materials or process parts into hollow parts, or further changes the shape and size of hollow parts. The core part of deep drawing mainly relies on the material located outside the bottom of the convex mold flowing into the concave mold.
Advantages:High dimensional accuracy, stable quality, relatively light weight, and good surface quality. Low cost for mass production.
Disadvantages:The wall thickness of the crucible is relatively thin and the service life is short.
Spinning Tungsten Crucible
The spinning tungsten crucible is made by using high-purity tungsten powder for hot pressing and sintering to form tungsten billets. Then, it is hot-rolled into designed thin plates using the hot rolling process, and processed into circular plates, which are placed on a hot spinning press. Next, heat the mixed flame of hydrogen and compressed air at a temperature of around 1000 ℃. After multiple rotations, the shape of the tungsten plate changes to the shape of a crucible, and finally cools to form a finished tungsten crucible.
Advantages:The spinning tungsten crucible has a high density, low surface roughness, good quality, strong tensile strength, and good hardness. The equipment and molds required for spinning are relatively simple, with low production costs and low product prices.
Disadvantages:The spinning tungsten crucible has a small batch size, high labor intensity, and low productivity.
Machined Tungsten Crucible
Machined tungsten crucibles are generally made of high-purity
tungsten rods, and machined into cylindrical or rectangular tungsten crucibles.
Advantages:Machined in one go, without cracks or gaps. The quality is good.
Disadvantages:Significant material loss and high cost. And it is only suitable for small-sized tungsten crucibles.
Welded Tungsten Crucible
Welding type tungsten crucible refers to a tungsten crucible that is directly welded into a rectangular or cylindrical shape using
tungsten plates or
tungsten sheets.
Advantages:High efficiency and low cost
Disadvantages:Due to the fact that the connecting parts are all welded. Long term use of welding may result in cracks or gaps.
Tungsten Crucible Application
According to different application environments, tungsten crucibles can be used in the following occasions and fields. The details are as follows:
1. Tungsten crucibles can be used for melting precious metals and rare metal materials;
2. Tungsten crucibles can be used for evaporation, concentration, or crystallization of solutions in corrosion-resistant industries;
3. Tungsten crucibles can be used for evaporation coating of high-purity metal pellets;
4. Due to the high melting point of tungsten reaching 3410 ℃, tungsten crucibles are widely used as core containers in industrial furnaces such as sapphire single crystal growth furnaces, quartz glass melting furnaces, and rare earth smelting furnaces. The working temperature environment for tungsten crucibles is generally above 2000 ℃. The tungsten crucible with characteristics such as high purity, high density, no internal cracks, precise size, and smooth inner and outer walls plays a crucial role in the success rate of crystal seeding, quality control of crystal pulling, debonding and sticking pot, and service life of sapphire crystal growth process.
